Decorative or Faux Painting

Faux painting is a term that loosely means FAKE....but really means IMITATION. (The name FAUX comes from the French word faux which means fake)

Our finishing techniques mimic other natural items - wood, stone, marble, old world looks, leather, suede, as well as weathered and worn looks.

Some of these techniques are very hard and difficult to accomplish but well worth the time and effort. You will be amazed at the finished product.....
The most asked question by homeowners and their guests...."How did they do that?"

Some Faux Painting Techniques

  • Chipped Antique Stripping - full bodied glaze stripes, that are then chipped and scrapped to give an aged and worn look

  • Color Washing - technique using thin washes of glaze over base color

  • Dragging - technique that produces a decorative finish and gives walls and furniture a textured appearance - creates thin vertical lines similar to wood graining

  • Fresco - murals painted on plaster walls or ceilings - different techniques - example is the work of Michelangelo at the Sistine Chapel

  • Furniture Refinishing and Antiquing -

  • Glazing - translucent colored medium, applied with different techniques, to acheivean OLD WORLD TUSCAN LOOK

  • Marbleizing - faux marble finish, in various colors and styles

  • Olde World Finishes - various distressed and worn finishes, to acheive an Olde Europeon look

  • Stenciling - our stenciling is done with fine glazes for an olde world feel, very subtle and appealing

  • Stippling - common term for brushwork to create dramatic or subtle finishes on walls and woodwork

  • Venetian Plastering - this technique gives walls the appearance of natural stone or marble by applying layers of plaster
