Jim and Ellen both resided in Bayville, NJ and attended the same high school, Central Region, although in different years. After graduating, Ellen attended Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely in the state where she always dreamed of living - Colorado. After they were married and had their first child, Ellen and Jim purchased a condo in Avon.
Just a little background: Ellen has very close ties to Iceland as her mother was born and raised there and Ellen travels there frequently. In 1989 when Vail hosted the World Cup Ski Championship, Ellen carried the placard for Iceland in the opening ceremony and led the skiers into the arena and later hosted a party for the Icelandic team in their home.
During this time, Ellen started her own retail business in Vail, Scandinavian Depot, while Jim "commuted" back and forth from NJ to CO as he continued with his own landscaping business.
However, raising their daughter without both parents always there, Ellen closed her business, rented her condo and moved back to NJ. Soon after they welcomed a son into their family and purchased a home in South Jersey where Ellen began painting lessons and found her niche in this world while Jim continued with his successful landscaping business.
When the children were both in school, Ellen longed for the mountains of Colorado and "good hair days" and they sold their home and moved back to Avon for a few years. Again, because of Jim's business, they returned to a new home in central New Jersey, closer to his work but after 6 months they knew that Colorado was their home. Jim sold his business and they moved back to Avon for good.......and thus began Vail Valley Decorative and General Painting, Inc.
They still live in their condo in Avon but their family has increased to include a furry, four legged child, Bridget, who is a rescue dog. They also have rescued a few cats and now they all live peacefully in the mountains looking out at the slopes of Beaver Creek with the children returning home for holidays now that they are grown. Ellen continues to love skiing and the children are excellent snow boarders and skiers too.
