Smooth Walls - Wallpaper ready, level 5, Venetian plaster ready, level 6, no imperfections

Orange Peel - Walls sprayed by machine to create a textured finish resembling the peel of an orange. Used every where in the United States on new construction, except in the eastern  states.  It's popular use is to hide wall imperfections.

Knockdown - Walls sprayed with a textured material to cover imperfections. Same as orange peel, only spots are on a larger scale.

Skip Trowel - Plaster hand troweled onto sheetrock walls to create an uneven, non-uniform, pitted wall surface that is then sanded smooth to the touch.  Currently, very popular in Colorado for an old world glazed wall finish.

Integrated Plaster - Rarely seen throughout the United States, it is plaster that has colorant added to it, which is then hand troweled  onto sheetrock walls.  The troweling is usually non-uniform, pitted but semi-smooth when finished.  The drawback is that it is very difficult to repair.
